Paved in Blood by Sonja Grey Review

⭐️ 5/5
🌶️ 4.5/5

Paved in Blood is quite honestly one of the best books that I have read, like ever. You’ll fall in love with the characters, feel their pain, grief, joy and everything in between. To top that, the plot is beyond well thought through.

You can’t miss this book.

Note:
This series is quite dark due to many different things including, but not limited to, human trafficking. I seriously recommend your reading the trigger warnings before you start reading if you have any triggers.

However, I do want to mention that if you can stomach the darkness, you are in for the most beautiful ride (in the dark romance sense of the word, of course). 🖤🖤

Plot Summary

Roman Melnikov is a ruthless man hidden in an expensive suit. But underneath the façade lies scars and tattoos that tell you who he really is. That is the side that very few are privileged enough to see.

When he comes to American in search of his sister what he did not expect to find is Emily. She is the daughter of his enemy and wants to bring her father down as much as he does. She just didn’t know how dangerous this quest would be.

The only way for her to be safe is to be at Roman’s side while they look for the scum that took his sister. But that is not a problem for either of them, because both of them know that they will never be able to let the other go.

She is also one of the few he allows to see his true self.

To everyone else Emily is Roman’s pet, but to him she is the only person that owns every part of him.

My Thoughts on Paved in Blood

This book seriously broke my heart and I might or might not have shed a few tears while reading it.

It is written so well. While it is an insta love story, it is not by any means boring once the MCs get together. The plot that forms the backbone of this series is so interesting and gripping. I really couldn’t put this book down once I started.

Series or Standalone?

This is not a standalone. There are five books in the Melnikov Bratva series by Sonja Grey. This is the first book.

Although each book features a different couple the main plot spans over all five books. So you really have to read all for them in order.

Tropes

In my experience, Sonja Grey is the queen of insta love.

Paved in Blood is the opposite of slow burn and this is done so well, you can’t help but love it.

Micro-Trope

Roman is the definition of a possessive MMC with “touch her and you die” written on his forehead.

On the other hand, Emily is a feisty, take no nonsense FMC.

Pet Names

Roman calls Emily solishka. He it means “little sun”. He tells her that he calls her that because she wore a yellow dress to the event where they met saying that she was the only light between everyone else there.

Quotes

“I would never hurt you in any way, solnishka. You have nothing to fear from me. I’d rather die than cause you pain.”
– Roman Melnikov

“I give you my word, solnishka, I’m going to fucking kill him for what he’s just said to you.”
“Roman, no, he’s not worth it.”
“No, sweetheart, but you are.”

– Roman Melnikov and Emily Marston

“I’m drawn to you, little sun, and I can’t look away.”
– Roman Melnikov

“Are you always this insanely protective?” I look down at her and smile. “With you? Yes. You might want to get used to it because it won’t be changing anytime soon.”
– Emily Marston and Roman Melnikov

“You deserve far better than me,” I tell her, “and if I were a good man, I’d let you go.” When she starts to argue, I press my finger against her lips, cutting off her words. “But that’s never going to happen. Every part of me already belongs to you, solnishka.”
– Roman Melnikov

“I love her. I love her in a way that a sane person would say is unhealthy. I love her in a way that’s almost painful. I walk around knowing that I wouldn’t survive if something happened to her. It’s a scary kind of love, but it’s the only way I know how to love her. She consumes me. There’s no half-assing that. It’s all or nothing, and she has it all, every single part of me.”
– Roman Melnikov
