Impossible Odds by Jill Ramsower is a glorious combination of a kidnapping romance with a flavour of forbidden romance. It is a must-read.

Plot Summary

When Giada stole a small and inconsequential object from the ruthless Primo, she didn’t expect for her life to change the way it did.

She didn’t expect this powerful and privileged stranger to want retribution.

She didn’t expect him to follow her home, but there he was ready to make her pay. However, he misread this fierce mafia princess when he thought that he could scare her.

Something I Loved

This is not really very specific to this book, however I noticed it very clearly in Impossible Odds.

Jill knows how long a book should be for the story to move at a good pace. She doesn’t stretch out the books just to fill more pages and I love it.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a book girl and I love a thick book, but only if it doesn’t stretch out the story. Some stories aren’t meant to be told over 800, 600, or even 400 pages.

Series or Standalone?

This book is the fifth in Jill Ramsover’s series “The Five Families”. Each book in this series is based on a different couple, but there is an overarching plot that links them all together. So, if you read this one before the others you might get a few minor spoilers for those books.

Quotes

I was lost. A paper boat drifting on his sinful ocean of promised pleasure. It was only a matter of time before I sank beneath those dark depths. I surrendered any hope of survival. I needed his turbulent waves more than I needed to breathe.
– Giada

“You aren’t just on my mind; you own my every craving. Nothing smells as sweet as your hair on my pillow. No wine could ever taste as sweet as your lips on mine. No paltry sunset could ever mesmerize me like the flecks of gold that dance in your emerald eyes. You have become my reason for breathing—the thought of another woman is comical compared to what I feel for you.”
– Primo

His hands, rough and warm and familiar, held more of my heart in their strong grip with every caress of my face and tug of my hair. Not my heart. His. The jittery, excitable organ in my chest no longer beat for the sole purpose of pumping blood through my veins. It beat for him. Sang for him. Lusted for him. Like a compass pointed north no matter its location, my heart would forever yearn for this one captivating man. All I could do was follow its lead and hope my heart knew best.
– Giada

“I know we haven’t known each other long, and I don’t want to scare you away, but I almost died today, and it made me realize that I want you to know that I … I love you.” His hands raised to either side of my face, and his forehead came to rest on mine. “Don’t say that,” he whispered. “You see what a life with me is like.” “I see loyalty and devotion. I see tenderness and strength. I see a man worth standing beside, even if it means we have to walk through hell together.”
– Giada and Primo
