Born Into Sin by Sonja Grey Review

⭐️ 5/5
🌶️ 3.5/5

The best way to keep me awake until 3 am? Give me a good age gap romance, one like Born Into Sin by Sonja Grey.

The series in which this book is, is the second generation series of the Melnikov Bratva series. You don’t have to read the original series before starting with the Melnikov Legacy series, but I do recommend doing so. You’ll enjoy both series more if you read it in that order.

Plot Summary

Both Dominic and Natalya are everything the other shouldn’t want.

Natalya is a Bratva princess, Lev Melnikov’s daughter and eighteen years old. Dominic is more than twice her age and friends with her dad.

But they do want each other.

They want each other something fierce. When life takes a turn and a dangerous situation forces her into his house there is no stopping the raging inferno that threatens to devour them.

Dominic tries to fight his feelings for her, but Natalya is persistent in her quest to have him as hers.

My Thoughts

I might be biased because there are few tropes that I love as much as age gap. But Born Into Sin is really an amazing book. I couldn’t put it down. So, I hated the fact that I am a working adult with bills to pay.

Anyhow, all that aside, you can’t help but love Dominic and Natalya. Their characters are so pure. And although they know that wanting each other is not something that they should, they also know that what they feel is a once in a lifetime kinda thing.

As with all Sonja Grey’s books (well all of the ones I have read, which are quite a few) you get an explosive love story between a ruthless man and a woman that brings him to his knees. But that is not all, there is always some other big fight happening in the background that makes everything so much more intriguing.

Series or Standalone?

Born Into Sin is the first in a spin-off or second gen series by Sonja Grey. Like I mentioned at the start of the post, you don’t have to read the original series, but you’ll enjoy both more if you read the Melnikov Bratva series first.

In terms of the Devils Will Rise: Melnikov Lagacy series, you don’t have to read them in order. You won’t get major spoilers if you decide to skip some of the books or just want to start with a different book.

However, I really do recommend your reading them all and in order. They are all really good and they are written chronologically.

Tropes

Like I’ve mentioned before, this is an age gape romance with a huge age gap. The man also happens to be the woman’s father’s friend. These two combined makes for one hell of a forbidden love.

In true Sonja Grey fashion Born Into Sin is the perfect example of instalove and most definitely not slow burn. And of course no dark romance would be complete without a possessive MMC and an FMC with a hint of feistiness.

Pet Names

Dominic calls Natalya principessa which is the Italian word for princess. He actually started calling her that when she was just a baby in Paved in Fire.

Quotes

“I’m going straight to hell for this,” he mutters. I give his head another kiss. “Would it be worth it?” His face softens when he cups my cheek and looks down at me. “Yes, principessa, it would be worth it. I’d suffer a thousand hells for just one touch from you.”
– Dominic and Natalya

“I don’t know how in the hell I’m going to keep you, but I’m going to find a way.” “You better,” she whispers back. “Your dad’s going to try to shoot me again.” I say it as a joke, but we both know it’s true. Lev is not going to take this news lightly. He’s going to want to kill me, and I can’t say I blame him. If he knew half the things I want to do to his sweet daughter, he’d make sure the next time he shoots me is a headshot. “I’ll stand in front of you. You’re not the only one who protects what’s theirs.”
– Dominic and Natalya

“You’re not very good at obeying rules, are you, principessa?” She shrugs and pulls back with a smile. “It depends on if I agree with the rule.”
– Dominic and Natalya

“I’m not a man who’s used to taking orders, sweetheart.” Grazing the backs of my knuckles along her chin, I memorize every detail of her face. “But I find myself wanting to do every damn thing you ask of me.”
– Dominic Alessi

“I’m not a good man, sweetheart, but I am a man of my word, and I’m giving it to you now. I am yours, and you are mine. I’m done fighting it.”
– Dominic Alessi

“I’m trusting you too, Natalya. I’m trusting you to not break my heart, because I wouldn’t fucking survive it, sweetheart.”
– Dominic Alessi

“Being in love isn’t something I ever wanted, but I’m helpless to resist the woman in front of me, and I’m sick of trying to fight it. Life is too goddamn short, and I know without a shadow of a doubt that I want to spend whatever is left of mine with her.”
– Dominic Alessi

“I’ll wait for however long it takes to convince her she’s mine, and I’ll kill any fucker who tries to come between us. Natalya Melnikov is officially off the fucking market.”
– Dominic Alessi

“Me changing my mind about how I feel is not something you need to worry about, principessa. I’m not a fickle man. I don’t claim to have feelings only to change my mind a few hours later.”
– Dominic Alessi

“Ours is a love that shouldn’t be, but now that I’ve found him, I’ll be damned if I ever let him go.”
– Natalya Melnikov

“Before you, I would never have called myself a sensitive man. I didn’t think I was capable of romantic feelings, and I definitely wasn’t aware of the obsessive, overprotective parts of me that were dead until you sparked them to life. You’ve changed me, principessa, and there’s no going back.”
– Dominic Alessi

“I don’t want you worrying that I’m going to change my mind or that I’m going to forget about you and find someone else, because that will never happen, Natalya. I’ve never felt this way about anyone before, and I know myself well enough to know I never will again. You’re it for me, principessa.”
– Dominic Alessi

“This isn’t the life I imagined myself having—it’s a million times better, and I wouldn’t change a single thing about it.”
– Natalya Melnikov
