Arranged marriage romances always intrigue me. Blood Always is not different. It is an explosive story between two very strong characters.
Jill Ramsower once again outdid herself in inserting twists and turns in this story that will blow your mind.
Plot Summary
Maria Genovese hates Matteo De Luca and his family for ripping her life to shreds.
Their first encounter ended with him in a chokehold, but instead of frightening him off she only intrigued him. He saw her as a challenge.
She saw him as a threat to who she is. But she also wanted him and for that she hated herself.
My Thoughts on Blood Always
If you started with the previous books in The Five Families series, you’d know that Maria is not a soft and demure mafia princess. She is prickly, to say the least. Which makes her the perfect character for an arranged marriage mafia romance such as Blood Always.
Matteo, however, is not someone to be messed around with though and that makes them the perfect match. It made the story interesting and explosive.
I’ll admit that Maria’s hardheadedness can be a bit too much at times, but considering the circumstances it is not uncalled for. Had she not been like that, she wouldn’t have been a believable character.
There is never a dull moment in this book and the character development, especially concerning Maria is a sight to behold.

Series or Standalone?
This book can be read as a standalone, but technically it is the third book in Jill Ramsower’s Series The Five Families.
Matteo and Maria’s story is limited to this book. However, there are some loose ends from the previous two stories that can’t be considered cliffhangers, but still need to be resolved. These mysteries are solved in Blood Always.
Tropes
This is a great mafia arranged marriage between two (kind of) rivalling families. So, Maria and Matteo definitely go from enemies to lovers.

Maria is a badass FMC and Matteo a jealous/possessive MMC who would definitely ask “who hurt you?” and avenge Maria’s pain.
