Back to fangirling about Kylie Kent. A Sinner’s Virtue is one of those books that will keep you up till sunrise regardless of what happens the next day.

Also, you might need a few tissues to survive your all nighter.

Plot Summary

With Zoe’s self-appointed adoptive dad being the Pakhan of the Bratva and his wife being part of the five families of New York she is tired of the mafia life and the ridiculous amount of protection needed to survive in that world.

So… the solution? Move to Melbourne.

There she’ll be safe from the dangers of that world and can start over in a place where she does know a few people to make it feel a little familiar.

But as much as she tries to avoid the underworld, it always seems to find her again. When Marcello De Bellis enters her life for one glorious night, she is hungry for more. But she is not about to return to that world of danger that she just escaped.

Marcello, on the other hand, is used to people judging him and making assumptions. He is a De Bellis after all. But for some reason he cannot take it when Zoe sees him as just another amoral criminal destined for nothing good.

Marcel is determined to prove to her how virtuous he can be, because there is no way he is letting her go.

And Zoe? Well she is determined to stay away.

My Thoughts

a sinner's virtue by kylie kent

The only words that there are to describe this book are the cliché ones like amazing, wonderful, heart wrenching etc…

I’ll admit, I have a thing for books in which the characters had a traumatic past that will break your heart into a million pieces, but then they rise from the ashes like a phoenix (yet another cliché statement, I guess).

Anyhow, both of the MCs in this book have their own pasts to deal with.

By this point in the series none of the De Bellis brothers had a great time growing up. And in each book we get a little closer to the reality of what really happened the night before Santo’s wedding and certain things preceding that.

Zoe on the other hand, didn’t have an easy past either. A lot of it actually happens in Legacy of Valentino, Mikhail and Izzy’s duet books (you don’t have to read them before this one, but it is nice if you have). The trauma from that time, understandably, still haunts her.

But in the end, the character development in this story is just so beautiful, you can’t help but be in awe.

Series or Standalone?

I guess you could see this as a standalone, but I wouldn’t read it as such. There are mentions of the previous books in it and there is a plot line that connects all the books.

If you read them out of order you might get a bit confused with not having all the details.

In fact, I’d actually recommend your reading at least her Legacy of Valentino duet first because it contains Izzy’s backstory. But before that I’d actually also read the Valentino Empire and Sons of Valentino series.

However, it is not necessary to read the other series. It will not in any way confuse you if you don’t. It’s just more fun that way.

Tropes

This is a severe case of “he falls first”, obsessive and mildly stalkerish MMC.

Past trauma also plays an important role in this story.

Quotes

“Babe, we can’t live our lives scared of all the what ifs. If you do that, you miss out on all the good things that could be as well.”
