My Russian Obsession by Sonja Grey Review

⭐️ 3.5/5
🌶️ 4/5

Age gap a forbidden romance? I mean, you can’t get better than that. Although My Russian Obsession is not my favourite book of Sonja Grey’s, it is still a good book and worth your time. (I’ll get to my objections to this book in a moment.)

Plot Summary

He is an underground fighter. She is the police chief’s daughter.

Dimitri Volkov is everything Gina should not want, but that doesn’t stop her obsession with him. She wants him, but he has walls around his heart that he is determined to keep up. She is determined to break them down.

To him she is a temptation of the worst kind. Ten years younger than him and persistent as hell. He is backed into a corner and has no idea how to get out.

In the ring Dimitri is unbeatable, but outside of it Gina might very well be the one to bring him to his knees.

My Thoughts

My Russian Obsession Sonja Grey

This is not my favourite Sonja Grey book. However, the problems that I have with it is mainly a personal preference kinda thing. So, I tried to be objective in my rating.

Personally, I am not a fan of it when the FMC has the obsession with the MMC. But, I mean, I knew that the book would be like that when I decided to read it. So, I won’t say that it is a bad book because of that.

The one thing that I didn’t like that I feel is not really such a matter of preference is the plot line. Although not bad, it is not of the same standard as Sonja’s other books. In My Russian Obsession, I felt like the plot was not as complicated and quite predictable.

Something that I quite liked, though was the way that she showed that Dimitri has a very heavy Russian accent. She actually changed words in the sentences so that you can’t help but hear a Russian accent. For example, he once said to Gina “You are wicked girl” instead of “You are a wicked girl”.

It seems like a minor thing and I guess it might annoy some people. But I quite enjoyed it. I felt like it helped to shape his character.

Series or Standalone?

My Russian Obsession is the first in a series of interconnected standalones. You don’t have to read anything before it and there is nothing forcing you to read the books following it.

But, you really should read the other two books in the Russian Boxing Club series. In fact, the Fedorov Bratva series follows on this series and is kind of connected. Also it is really good.

We are also blessed with a possessive MMC and the beloved “who did this to you”.

Pet Names

There aren’t really pet names in My Russian Obsession, but Dimitri does sometimes call Gina wicked girl because she is such a great temptation that he simply cannot resist.

Also, Gina is of Russian heritage with a Russian surname, Belov. Well, in America it is Belov. In Russia, they would add an a at the end because she is a woman.

Dimitri is very Russian and believes that the a should be there. So, he sometimes calls her Belova.
