🌶️ 3/5
It is safe to say that I am a die-hard fan of the Dark Verse series. The Reaper, like The Predator took my breath away. RuNyx really managed to keep me on my seat the entire way through.
In this book, Tristan and Morana’s story really starts to develop. The mystery behind the Syndicate also gets more intense.
Please note that this review contains spoilers for the previous book in the series, The Predator. No spoilers for The Reaper, though.
The Reaper Book Summary

When Tristan Caine broke a promise he made himself a long time ago everything turns uncertain. However, while waging the battle between his past and future he is still certain of one thing. Morana Vitalio’s live is still his. No longer his to kill, but now his to keep.
“You’d never get a better opportunity to kill me. You know it, I know it. This would stay only between us and the dead that are buried here. So, point that gun at me one more time and aim for my heart. Shoot me. Find your closure. Find what you’ve been looking for, for twenty years.”
“But understand this,” she kept speaking, in the same firm tone, thankful it didn’t quiver. “This is the only chance I’m giving you to kill me. After this, should you choose not to, this will never come up again. After this, you’ll need to let go of the idea that you’re killing me. After this, you never, ever threaten me with my life again.”
– Morana Vitalio (The Predator)
For Morana, on the other hand, everything is in murky waters and it seems that her freedom might be on the other side of the line between allies and enemies. For her only one thing is certain and that is that Tristan has been hers since that fateful day twenty years ago.
Now they have to hunt for the truth and it soon becomes clear that the mystery of the girls gone missing is just the tip of the iceberg.
My Thoughts on the Reaper
I loved this book. Very few authors can keep me on the edge of my seat through two books on the same characters. But in The Predator and The Reaper RuNyx certainly did that.
In this book, Tristan and Morana’s love story really starts to take off and things between them get interesting. Tristan starts to accept that he wants Morana and he starts to open up. While he is still the ruthless mafioso we all know and love he certainly has a soft spot for Morana.
Morana is still her same funny, loveable and genius self.

The Reaper is not a standalone at all.
This is the second of the Dark Verse Series and also the second of Tristan and Morana’s story. The story also doesn’t end here. Although the books after these are about different couples the overarching plot only finishes in The Syndicater.
Tropes
With this book being the second of Tristan and Morana’s story we start to inch closer to the lovers part of enemies to lovers. In this book their love story really starts after the ending of The Predator in which Morana tells Tristan to make a choice between hating her and wanting her.

The Reaper Book Quotes
His demons dance with mine.
– Morana Vitalio
He wanted to tell her that love was too tame a word for everything that happened inside him where she was concerned. She had shifted him, realigned him from the inside out. Like a planet that suddenly pulls a moon into its orbit, she had bound him to her, given him direction for longer than she knew, gave him purpose to exist.
She was his gravity, his fucking planet, and he was lost without her.
– Tristan Caine
“You are exactly where you were supposed to be,” he told her, his voice leaving no room for doubts. “I know exactly who you are.”
“Who am I?”
“Mine.”
– Tristan Caine and Morana Vitalio
“I’m so in love with you, caveman.”
“You can’t take that back.”
– Morana Vitalio and Tristan Caine
“You,” she whispered to the space between them, “Tristan Caine, are a beautiful, beautiful man. And my heart beats for you.”
– Morana Vitalio
“You assume, with your limited mind women only make two good things—wives and whores. I’m neither. What I am is a woman who has been freed from the shackles men like you had bound me to. What I am is a woman who knows that freedom thanks to two good men who’ve made me believe again.”
– Morana Vitalio
