Back to my recent obsession, age gap romances. My Russian Temptation by Sonja Grey is the next in a long line of age gap romances that I can really recommend.
Plot Summary
The Russian and Irish boxing clubs have never been the greatest of friends. When the Irish club closed down when Paddy O’Connor, the owner, went to prison the Russians couldn’t be happier. But then his granddaughter came to open it back up.
Moira didn’t expect to inherit the club, but she is not one to shy away a challenge. Much to Nikolai’s dismay, she is stubbornly determined to make the club a success.
But as stubborn and infuriating as she is Nikolai soon realises that he wants the one thing that he never thought he wanted. A family. And he wants it with her.
Moira doesn’t take long to reach the same conclusion. This man who is almost double her age manages to press all her buttons. However, the raging fire of hate between them turns into a blazing inferno of a very different kind.
Yet, now the question lingers, will they, neither of whom had pretty childhoods, be able to be good spouses and parents?
My Thoughts
I don’t like the pregnancy trope, usually that is. In My Russian Temptation, I didn’t mind it at all.
It was an integral part of the story that helped to shape two broken characters. They had to work past their childhood traumas so they could be able to face their future.
Another thing that I quite liked is that although Moira is a badass FMC that can do things for herself, she knows when to accept help.
Nikolai is very possessive of her and wants to help her. So it is quite refreshing that she doesn’t fight him around every turn. She is doesn’t take nonsense, but she knows how to pick her battles.
The only thing that I didn’t love about this book was that the conflict wasn’t that intense. Especially when it comes to the conflict that is not between the MCs. But that doesn’t make it a bad book in any way, shape, or form.
Where to Read?
You can get My Russian Temptation by Sonja Grey on Amazon. If you buy it using my link, I’ll get a small commission at no extra cost to you.
You can read it for free with a Kindle Unlimited trail.
Sadly, there is not an audiobook for this book.
Series or Standalone?
My Russian Obsession is the second in a series of interconnected standalones. So although you could read it before or without reading My Russian Obsession, I’m glad that I read them in order.
Because the books are chronological in terms of time there is a bit of extra background that you have if you read the previous book first. Of course, Sonja gives more than enough background in this book to ensure that you can understand and enjoy everything. It is just more enjoyable if you read the books in order.
Tropes
In this age-gap enemies to lovers romance we have a protective MMC and a badass FMC who found themselves a new family.
Our amazing protective and possessive MMC falls first, probably harder and emits clear “touch her and you ☠️” vibes.
As I mentioned earlier, My Russian Temptation also contains the pregnancy trope, but not in an irritating way, if you ask me.
Quotes
“It’s her or nothing, and there’s no going back. A thought like that should have made me run screaming from the room, but instead, I feel calm and at peace.”
– Nikolai Sokolov
“Boxers have to follow rules, Sean, and I don’t f***ing care about rules, not when it concerns the woman I love.”
– Nikolai Sokolov
“I don’t deserve you.”
“You deserve so much more.”
I shake my head at the absurdity of her words and kiss her again. “There’s nothing better than you, Moira, not in my eyes.”
– Nikolai and Moira
“Sometimes I look at you, and you’re so beautiful that I can barely stand it, like a gorgeous piece of art that you get completely lost in, but you know you’ll never really ever be able to fully understand. You’re overwhelming, Moira, and you constantly take my breath away.”
– Nikolai Sokolov
“A life without you is not one worth living.”
– Nikolai Sokolov
“You have no idea how much I love you. I can’t imagine my life without you, and I don’t want to.”
– Moira O’Connor
It’s hard for me to think of Nikolai as anything other than the sweet, caring man I’ve grown to love, but I do remember how scary he seemed when I first met him. I’m so glad we’re past that stage, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t love that he’s a big softie for me and no one else.”
